About The Event

Join the Marsyas Trio and Lotte Betts-Dean in the 5th of our six-part digital season 'At Home with the Marsyas'. We're thrilled to bring you the world premiere of Michael Finnissy's 'Wisdom', written for us during lockdown and generously funded by Arts Council England. Alongside this we perform exquisite pieces for voice and trio by Ravel and Judith Weir. Our theme is Connectivity, with music inspired by cultures from around the world - lockdown has been a time for many for reflection and reaching out to connect with people far and wide.

Premiering a new work is always a special event. While the stream will be available to view for free, we'd like to bring you the full concert experience. Please consider buying a ticket (suggested amount is £10 payable through this link https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/marsyastrio).

Everyone who has purchased a ticket will receive additional links by email to an exclusive pre-concert talk with Michael Finnissy and to join our post-concert party on Zoom!

Programme:

• Judith Weir - Nuits d'Afrique

• Maurice Ravel - Chansons madécasses

• Michael Finnissy - Wisdom (world premiere)

Michael Finnissy’s “Wisdom” is a work which transcends the boundaries between musical cultures and has drawn on texts from throughout several centuries. This piece explores isolation and a path to healing. He says of the work: "In the ancient world, Wisdom was seen as a messenger…something real which could be used by people...you called on Wisdom almost as you might call on a neighbour."
